Rattlesnake Ledge, have you hiked it?

My first hike of 2019 was to Rattlesnake Ledge. Have you hiked it? In my opinion, this is one of the most popular hikes around the PNW. BUT it was my very first time doing it. Wow, can you believe that? I enjoyed every minute of this hike and I can't wait to do it again!

We started the hike around 12:30pm and ended before 3pm. It was about 40 degrees and the sun broke through the clouds at some points. While we were on the way up the mountain, it started to hail, and once we got to the top it even started snowing. While we were at the top of the peak, taking in the beautiful views, watching birds eat out of kids hands, celebrating our accomplishment making it to the top, and of course snapping pictures, it stopped snowing and the sun started to come out. We spent about 30 minutes at the top before we made our way back down. Brrrrr, we were cold and wet, so we cruised down the mountain. At the bottom of the mountain, we gave each other high fives and felt great about the outdoor adventure we just had.

I used my Apple Watch to track the workout, used my All Trails App to track the hike, and used my iPhone XS Max and my Canon EOS Rebel T6 to take photos. I was dressed in Lululemon yoga pants, REI socks, hat, and flannel, my "The Mountains Are Calling And I Must Go" sweater, and my La Sportiva Hiking Boots. Oh and I cant forget, I had my Hydro Flask so that I stay hydrated throughout the hike. I was accompanied by one of my best friends and all the other friends that were out that day... it was a busy trail, let me tell you!!

Highlights from the hike:

  • The hike is well marked and is really easy to know exactly where to go. A big plus for me when hiking!

  • The trail is easy to run or jog on... if you decide that's how you want to take the trek. :) We walked fast and was able to finish the hike in about 2 hours with a 30 minute stop at the top.

  • The views are beautiful, even with the snow/hail and clouds, the sites you see from the top are amazing. For us, the sun peaked out and the skies cleared up so we were able to see even more wonderful views.

  • The hike is marked as "Moderate" and I would say that's pretty accurate. I felt like I got a decent workout but also could keep my pace up and probably even go faster if I wanted.

  • This trail is busy... lots of people on the way up and way down. I would highly recommend being prepared to use your trail etiquette or go during the week day when it might not be as busy.

  • Overall, this is a wonderful hike that I would recommend going on so that you can have your own highlights as well!

This hike truly allowed me to stop and smell the roses. It's been quite busy for me with the holidays, work, weddings, and really just life in general...so being able to slow down and enjoy the beauty around me was exactly what I was able to do on this hike. How are you stopping to smell the roses?

If you would like to join me on a hike, let me know! I am creating a hiking group where we will all be able to get out and enjoy the beauty around us! :)
